in addition to the gay male protagonist, we have a lesbian couple, a non-binary character, a trans masc character, an elderly gay man and two questioning characters: one questioning their gender identity and the other questioning his sexuality. our dreams at dusk contains an entire cast of queer characters who are fleshed out and given arcs. we tend to stop at the “white middle-class gay guy comes out” story because it's the easiest one to sell to straight audiences. the most important thing about this manga for me is how diverse it is. that doesn't mean it's the best queer story i've read, but it basically does everything right. so yeah TL DR read our dreams at dusk it's very good and has the best queer rep that i know of okay i was gonna recommend the second one but it is 12am and i need to go to bed, will write about it tomorrow. it's also something that i'd recommend to basically any queer person regardless of whether or not you like anime or manga. it's a very beautiful story and a quick read, being only 4 volumes. i also quite like the tone: it def doesn't shy away from the darker realities of being queer but it doesn't indulge in them either, focusing more on the joy of having a safe space. our dreams at dusk shows these questioning characters and says it's okay to be unsure of yourself. i feel a lot of people feel they need to have everything sorted out since people who are confident in their queer identity are all they know of. i especially appreciate this rep of people who are questioning as it's something that needs to be shown more in media so it can become normalized. I'm bumping with two recommendations for queer manga our dreams at dusk is basically THE best queer rep i've seen.
